There have been rumors that a sequel to 2003 body-swap comedy Freaky Friday will be made for years, but now it seems that a new film will see the light of day after its stars appeared to confirm that it is in the works.

In a post on Instagram, Jamie Lee Curtis (@jamieleecurtis) posted a picture of herself with Lindsay Lohan and the message: “DUH! FFDEUX!” The post has so far been like more than 1.3 million times.

Lohan has previously talked about a second movie in the franchise, telling People Magazine a movie was “in the process”. She added that she was excited to reunite with Curtis and thought they would “have a lot of fun with this.” She also told Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM show that the film was in the works, but was reluctant to say any more.

Details about the film are, understandably, thin on the ground thus far. There have been rumors that Nisha Ganatra – possibly best known for working on shows such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Late Night – was on board to direct the film, but this has not been confirmed.

Likewise, no plot details have been released. The 2003 film – itself a remake of a 1976 film of the same name – centred on Tess (Curtis) and her teenage daughter Anna (Lohan), who do not get on. But, after taking fortune cookies at a Chinese restaurant, and reading their fortunes aloud in front of bathroom mirrors, they wake up the next morning in each other’s bodies. They then go through various experiences and end up understanding each other a lot better and reconciling.
