Three big English acting names have been confirmed in the cast of the upcoming 28 Years Later film – Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
These are the first cast names to be announced in the film, which is being directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland.
Comer, who shot to international fame in the TV show Killing Eve, has recently been in hit films such as Free Guy and The Last Duel.
Ralph Fiennes, 61, has appeared in many films over the years, notably portraying Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter series and M in the three most recent films in the James Bond franchise.
Speaking of which, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has recently been linked with the role of Bond. He has previously featured in Bullet Train, Godzilla and Avengers: Age of Ultron, among others.
However, other details about the film are thin on the ground, including in terms of the plot.
The original film, 28 Days Later, released in 2002, was directed by Boyle and written by Garland. In it, a courier, played by Cillian Murphy, awakes from a coma to find that England has been ravaged by the Rage virus, which turns suffers into not just bloodthirsty zombies, but bloodthirsty zombies that can run really fast. The low-budget film was a surprise hit, and took more than $80 million at the box office.
A sequel, 28 Weeks Later, was released in 2007, but Boyle and Garland were only executive producers on that film.
However, this latest film is slated to be the first in a new trilogy. Murphy is also on board, but as an executive producer, rather than star.
