Marvel has unveiled plans to make a new series focusing on Vision, which will air on Disney+ in 2026.

Variety revealed that Terry Matalas – who was recently been showrunner on season three of Star Trek: Pickard, which had widespread acclaim – will be showrunner on the new series.

It has also been confirmed that Paul Bettany is on board to reprise his role as Vision, which he has played throughout the character’s appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Character arc

The new show will be set after the events in the finale to WandaVision. For those who haven’t been following his character arc over the past few years – warning, spoilers ahead – Vision has had quite the ride. He was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War (2018), but was resurrected by his love, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, as a spectral creation through magic powered by grief in WandaVision (2021). Later in that series, he was rebuilt as a physical android, but with no memory of his previous existence. In the finale, the two Visions battled it out, with Wanda restoring the android Vision’s memories, with the spectral version then fading from existence.

Further plot details have not been released, but it will presumably focus on his new life.

New approach

This is the first Marvel TV show to be announced since Disney executives confirmed that the MCU will pursue a ‘quality over quantity’ approach to future work, with about two TV series produced per year.

It also demonstrates Marvel’s shift to a more traditional approach to TV shows, with longer development times and hiring showrunners to oversee the show.
