• Trailer gives first plot hints and on-track action
  • Brad Pitt stars as ex-F1 star brought back to mentor young teammate
  • Filming is ongoing – including at last weekend’s British Grand Prix

The first teaser for Brad Pitt’s much-anticipated F1 movie has dropped, giving a flavor of what we can expect.

Formula 1 and Apple Original Films dropped the trailer on the weekend of the British Grand Prix.

Built for combat

To the tune of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ it shows numerous high-speed racing shots from around the world – including the iconic Spa Francochamps in Belgium – as well as accidents.

“We need to build our car for combat,” says Pitt’s character. “How do we make that safe?” the team boss replies. “Who said anything about safe?” he replies.

The film centers on Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, who was a leading Formula 1 driver until he experienced a devastating crash. But he is tempted back to the track to mentor a rookie teammate, Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, at the fictional APXGP team

Pitt is also a producer on the film, alongside industry heavyweight Jerry Bruckheimer. Joseph Kosinski, who directed Top Gun: Maverick, is in the director’s seat.

Ongoing filming

Filming is still ongoing for F1, including some work undertaken at last weekend’s British Grand Prix. By filming at real events – and with real cars on track – it is hoped to give the film an authenticity that is difficult to find in sports films.

Appropriately, Lewis Hamilton – who is credited as a producer on the film through his Dawn Apollo Films company – won the British Grand Prix, his 104th F1 victory in all, but first since 2021.

F1 is set to hit theaters on around the world on June 25, 2025, and North America two days later.
