Amazon Prime Video’s “The Boys” has introduced a content warning ahead of its Season 4 finale following the July 13 attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. The episode, initially titled “Assassination Run” and now renamed “Season 4 Finale,” begins with a disclaimer advising viewer discretion due to scenes of fictional political violence. This precaution highlights that any resemblance to recent events is coincidental and unintentional.
This episode’s timing is particularly sensitive as it follows an attack on Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he sustained an injury to his right ear. Multiple shots were fired, critically injuring two others and killing 50-year-old Corey Comperatore. The assailant, Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was killed at the scene by the Secret Service’s counter-sniper team.
In response, “The Boys” series issued a similar disclaimer on social media, reiterating the fictional nature of the content and confirming that the show was filmed in 2023. The statement emphasizes that Amazon, Sony Pictures Television, and the producers of “The Boys” strongly oppose any form of real-world violence.
Based on a graphic novel, “The Boys” follows a CIA-supported black ops team as they combat a powerful corporation and its politically manipulative superheroes. The series is well-known for its sharp political satire and has been a significant hit since its premiere in 2019.
