Green light: the team behind Squid Game have confirmed that a third season of the hit show has been ordered. Red light:  but that third season will be the final one.

This announcement came as it was finally revealed when the much-anticipated second season of the show will be released on Netflix – December 26.

The third and final season of Squid Game will be shown in 2025, the announcement added.

As well as the announcement of a release date, a trailer has also dropped, along with an official description of the upcoming season. It reveals that the story picks up three years after player 456 won Squid Game, but Gi-hum still wants to find out who is behind the bloodthirsty game and put an end to it.

Using the fortune he won in the game to fund his search Gi-hun starts by looking for the man in the sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when the search proves fruitful, the path to taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than Gi-hun had imagined and to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.

The first season of the Korean-language show by Hwang Dong-hyuk was a global sensation when it dropped in September 2021, with viewers being captivated by the story of Gi-Hun and his fight to stay alive in the battle-to-the-death that is the Squid Game. Squid Game remains one of the biggest shows ever shown on Netflix.

While fans have two more seasons of the show to look forward to, there may also be a US remake of Squid Game coming to Netflix.
