The controversy surrounding domestic abuse drama It Ends With Us appears to be turning nuclear, after it was revealed that director and star of the film Justin Baldoni had hired a PR crisis manager.
TikTok has been rife with conspiracy theories surrounding the big screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel, with a rift reportedly developing between Lively and Baldoni during the post-production stage of the movie. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that sources had told them the picture had been cut twice, with Lively commissioning Deadpool & Wolverine editor Shane Reid to put together a version. The final edit is credited to Oona Flaherty and Robb Sullivan, so it is unclear if any of Reid’s Lively commissioned version made it to the silver screen.
Social media sleuths had also noticed that Baldoni had not been present at any joint press events, nor had he appeared in any group shots with the rest of the cast at the New York premiere on August 6. Now the Jane The Virgin star has hired the services of Melissa Nathan, a PR crisis manager who represented Johnny Depp during his trial with Amber Heard. Nathan founded The Agency Group earlier this summer after spending 10 years working for leading crisis strategist Matthew Hiltzik.
The New York based Agency Group specialises in communications, crisis, reputation management, personal publicity and digital team services across the entertainment industry. Their hiring by Baldoni comes at a time when reports are circulating that he made Lively uncomfortable on set during the filming of It Ends With Us.
Baldoni has received widespread praise for his handling of questions regarding the subject matter of It Ends With Us, during his press duties promoting the film. Lively, on the other hand, has been widely criticised for how she has handled similar questions, as well as using the time to promote her new hair care line. Baldoni, however, is not followed by any of the It Ends With Us castmembers on Instagram, despite following them all himself.
