And four years after it first aired, fans are still obsessed with Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones’s relationship.
The actors played Connell Waldron and Marianne Sheridan in the Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney’s bestselling novel of the same name. The story follows the pair from their school days into adulthood, as they struggle to navigate their ever-changing relationship.
Unlike their characters, Mescal and Edgar-Jones have never enjoyed a romantic relationship (that we know of!). But the pair have forged a great friendship – which has had their followers hooked for years.
And now, a development has been uncovered via one sleuth on TikTok.
User Paulanddaisyupdates has figured out that one of Mescal’s tattoos is dedicated to his former co-star.
According to the deepdive, the deer, which is inked on his right forearm, is a huge nod to Edgar-Jones’s character Marianne, after Connell writes to her to tell her “thoughtful face and nice sleek body” reminds him of the animal.
“It’s something to do with Normal People,” Mescal previously admitted in an interview.
‘That’s soulmatism at its core’
Of course, fans lost their minds at the association – and looked into it even further.
“They’re literally soulmates (in a non romantic way) and I love that for them,” said one follower, while someone else commented, “Also I’m pretty sure that the form of the deer it’s a ‘D’ and there’s a ‘J’ too.”
And after the clip garnered 4.4k likes on Twitter/X, users on the other platform also got involved.
“That’s soulmatism at its core,” wrote one, while another added, “Tell me why they’re not together? It is one-sided for Paul?”
While fans continue to root for the pair to get together, they are sadly clutching at straws.
