  • Josh Allen, Derrick Henry and Justin Jefferson are also set to star in the commercial
  • The new NFL season kicks off tonight with the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Baltimore Ravens
  • The commercial is a throwback to a 2004 gladiator themed Pepsi Super Bowl ad starring Beyonce, Pink and Britney Spears

Pepsi are pulling out the big guns ahead of tonight’s opening NFL game between Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens.

Tying in with the upcoming Gladiator sequel, Megan Thee Stallion and Chiefs star Travis Kelce will take to the colosseum, in a scene reminiscent of the 2004 Roman Empire Super Bowl commercial that starred a heavy hitting line up of Beyonce, Pink and Britney Spears.

The Make Your Gameday ad, which will air ahead of tonight’s opening game, will also feature Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Ravens running back Derrick Henry and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

Almost a quarter century on from the original Gladiator, which took home five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for leading man Russell Crowe, Pepsi is once again going back to the Roman Empire for inspiration, ahead of this year’s upcoming sequel, which will star Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Paul Mescal and Connie Nielsen. Like the original, Gladiator II will be directed by Ridley Scott.

In the commercial, Stallion stars as Empress Megan, leading a legion of NFL superstars into battle. In a statement, the Hot Girl Summer star said, “I’m honored to follow in the footsteps of the legends who appeared in this Gladiator campaign 20 years ago and proud to have carved my own new legacy.”

The Chiefs begin their 2024 campaign hoping to clinch a third successive Super Bowl triumph, having overcome the San Francisco 49ers this year and the Philadelphia Eagles last year.
