- The album will serve as the soundtrack to Joker: Folie et Deux
- Harlequin will be released on September 27
- Gaga also has a seventh studio album coming out in October
Lady Gaga, not content with dropping a seventh studio album next month and starring in upcoming DC Studios sequel Joker: Folie et Deux, has just announced that in two days she will unleash Harlequin, a soundtrack album for the new Todd Phillips picture.
Gaga, who will star as Harleen ‘Lee’ Quinzel alongside Joaquin Phoenix, reprising his role as The Joker, teased her fans with five Instagram posts featuring song titles, before sharing the cover art for the album in her sixth post to her 57.2m followers.
The songs will help make up the 13-track musical accompaniment to the second Joker film, which had been teased a few days ago with billboards that read ‘6.5’, presumably meaning that Gaga doesn’t view the record as a true studio album.
Grammy Award winning Gaga’s character is believed to be a reimagining of the Harley Quinn comic book villain in a musical follow up to 2019’s Joker, for which Joaquin Phoenix received an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as the titular villain.
Quinzel and Joker fall in love at Arkham State Hospital in the new film, sharing life together as a musical through their shared insanity, while Joker’s followers begin a movement to liberate him after he was arrested for the murders he committed in the first film. Folie et Deux hits cinemas on October 4.
