Everyone loves a crossover event, right? Well, two beloved comedies have confirmed they are coming together for a special episode.

Hints confirmed

After cryptic hints on social media recently, we now have confirmation that Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will be coming together for a crossover episode.

Rob McElhenney broke the news on X (which everyone still calls Twitter) by posting an image of himself alongside co-star Charlie Day and Abbott Elementary’s star/co-creator Quinta Brunson outside the studio for the school-based comedy.

McElhenney then posts on Instagram another shot, which added in …Sunny’s Danny De Vito and Abbott’s Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis.

A potential crossover for the shows had been teased by McElhenney on social media, who noted that it would make sense, given both shows are set in Philadelphia. Also, given that both shows air on Disney-owned stations – Abbott on ABC, Sunny on FX – there are fewer potential hurdles to getting the show done as if they were on rival stations.

Brunson had hinted that a crossover episode was being planned at the San Diego Comic-Con this summer but didn’t mention which other show would be involved when she spoke to Variety.

However, it hasn’t been revealed when the episode might make it to air. Abbott Elementary begins its fourth season on October 9. Meanwhile, scripts for the 17th season of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia are currently being written, ahead of shooting later in the year.

Better actor than baseball player

It’s a good job that season 17 is under way, as McElhenney is a better actor than baseball player, at least according to MLB star Chase Utley. Speaking to Pubity recently, he talked about McElhenney’s pitching and catching game, or lack of it.
