They’re one of the best-selling boy bands in history.
So it’s no wonder that fans were devastated when One Direction took an indefinite hiatus in January 2016.
But while the group may have been out of action for almost nine years, this week, they have been plagued with drama – namely around an old feud involving Zayn Malik and Liam Payne.
While to the world, the band – which also consisted of Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan – were the best of friends, the truth is a different matter entirely.
Back in 2022, Payne, 31, revealed that there was once a backstage argument between him and one of the other 1D members.
Without naming the other person, he admitted that the violent incident involved one of his former bandmates pinning him against a wall.
While Payne has kept schtum on the perpetrator, the years of speculation are over for fans – as his ex-girlfriend has revealed all.
In a TikTok to her 639.3k followers, Maya Henry, 24 – who dated Payne for three years from 2019 – duetted with a Directioner to talk about the incident.
“I see this all the time, everywhere – I’ve heard this insufferable story so many times,” she said. “He told me it was Zayn, so…”
Explaining what happened on the podcast interview two years ago, Payne explained, “There was an argument backstage and one member, in particular, threw me up a wall.
“So I said to him, ‘If you don’t remove those hands, there’s a high likelihood you’ll never use them again.’”
Malik, 31, left One Direction in early 2015, leaving the remaining members to release their final album, before announcing a hiatus to work on solo projects.
The band was formed in 2010, after all the members unsuccessfully auditioned as solo acts on The X Factor. After being placed together as a group, One Direction placed third on the show.

Henry didn’t stop there, though.
In a later TikTok, the social media star revealed that Payne has allegedly been obsessively contacting her since their split.
“Ever since we broke up he messages me, will blow up my phone, not only from his phone, it’s always from different phone numbers too, so I never know where it’s gonna come from,” she said. “He’ll create new iCloud accounts to message me – it’s always a new damn iCloud account. Every time I see one pop up on my phone I’m like, ‘Here we f***ing go again.’
“Also, he will email me… not only me, but he’ll blow up my mom’s phone. Is this normal behavior to you?”
Henry went on to claim that her ex had contacted her friends when they were still together, and has done so since they split.
Adding that she thought Payne’s fans were blinded by their loyalty to him.
“He’s the one that is constantly doing weird s***, and also might I add, he literally said the reason he has all these people on his damn Snapchat, which he has had for years apparently, and messages, is he preys on One Direction fans because they’re loyal to him,” she said.
“When you constantly enable someone, they’re never gonna realize what they’ve done is bad, or they do realize and they know they can get away with it, which is what has happened with him for so many years.
“Everything gets swept under the rug, everything gets hidden for him. I don’t know who the hell’s behind all of this but nothing ever comes out about him.
“It’s hard when you have these people jumping down your throat for speaking the truth on things that have happened, and quite frankly disgusting things that have happened and disgusting things that he’s done.”
Payne has been in a relationship with Kate Cassidy, 25, since October 2022.
