- Swift has donated the money to Feeding America
- The two Hurricanes have wreaked havoc throughout Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, East Tennessee and southwestern Virginia
- The donation is the latest in a long line of charitable contributions Swift has made over the last few years
Taylor Swift has made a sizeable donation to help with relief efforts following the devastation of Hurricane Helene and ongoing destruction being caused by Hurricane Milton.
The multiple Grammy winning singer-songwriter has pledged $5m to Feeding America after the two hurricanes destroyed vast regions of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, East Tennessee and Southwestern Virginia.
Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot said in a statement shared on the organisation’s social media channels, “We’re incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift. This contribution will help communities rebuild and recover, providing essential food, clean water and supplies to people affected by these devastating storms.”
Feeding America is a network of over 200 food banks across the United States, aiming to end hunger in communities nationwide. They are currently delivering food, water and supplies to the hardest hit areas affected by Helene and Milton. Swift’s significant contribution will no doubt make that sizeable challenge a lot easier.
Babineaux-Fontenot’s statement conluded by saying, “Together, we can make a real impact in supporting families as they navigate the challenges ahead. Thank you, Taylor, for standing with us in the movement to end hunger and for helping communities in need.”
The Shake It Off megastar’s donation is the latest in a long line of charitable donations Swift has made over the years. During her recent Eras tour, Swift made contributions to food banks in the cities she played in and in 2020 donated $1m to tornado relief efforts in Tennessee. Earlier this year, Swift also gave $100,000 to the family of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, the DJ and mother-of-two who was killed during the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory parade mass shooting. Swift’s partner Travis Kelce plays tight end for the Chiefs.
As well as Swift, country music icon Dolly Parton has donated $1m to relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Helene, with increased fundraising needed as Milton continues to storm through the Tampa Bay area of Florida, where it has already caused potentially billions of dollars worth of damage, including tearing the roof off Tropicana Field.
