- Paul Mescal is set to reprise his role in A Streetcar Named Desire
- The actor first starred as Stanley Kowalski in the play in London’s West End in 2022
- The play will now be hitting Broadway

He’s about to hit the big screen once more in Gladiator II.
But Paul Mescal isn’t resting on his laurels.
The Irish actor, 28, has already been lined up for his next project – in a role he is more than familiar with.
Mescal will reprise his role as Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire – this time taking the play to Broadway.
The star – who shot to fame in the Hulu hit show Normal People in 2020 – first took on the part in London’s West End in 2022.
He earned critical acclaim and an Olivier award for his portrayal of Kowalski.
In a review at the time, Variety wrote, “Mescal’s panther-like Stanley luxuriates in his physical prowess. The actor makes Stanley not just dangerous but scarily pleased with himself, a vicious grin atop a body utterly at ease.
“Yet he is no simple brute. Despite his strutting self-confidence, Mescal shows the rawness of a man who cannot fully explain himself to himself. And giving the character a low center of gravity, he releases both astonishing physical and vocal power.”
It is thought that the production of Tennessee Williams’ classic will return to the West End for a limited run between February 3 – 22, before it debuts in Brooklyn for its US premiere.
Mescal pegged for new Ridley Scott adaptation
This isn’t the only news that has been announced regarding Mescal’s career this week.
The actor is reportedly in talks to work with director Ridley Scott once more – this time for an adaptation of The Dog Stars.
Based on Peter Heller’s acclaimed post-apocalyptic novel, sources say that Mescal is in talks to play Hig, a widowed pilot and one of the few survivors in a world devastated by a global pandemic.
Set in post-pandemic Colorado, the story follows Hig as he leads a solitary existence in an airplane hangar – with only his dog and a gunman for company.
His quiet life is disrupted when he intercepts a mysterious transmission on his Cessna’s radio, sparking a journey to uncover its origin.
Alongside Scott as director, the screenplay will be written and produced by Mark L. Smith, who recently found success with Twisters.
Heller will also act as a producer, as well as his manager and producing partner, Cliff Roberts.
Filming is aiming to start production in Spring 2025.
This will be the second collaboration between Mescal and Scott – the first of which is Gladiator II, which hits theaters on November 22.
