Overwatch 2 fans are being transported back in time with the release of “Overwatch: Classic,” a limited-time mode that will allow them to re-live the nostalgic moments from the original version (2016).

Nostalgia-Inducing Features

Blizzard shared a detailed post, giving an overview of the new mode launching from 12 November to 2 December 2024. While the time span for the event is a bit short, players’ reviews or reactions can turn tables – the developers hinted that it can be more than just a one-time thing,

“While we’re not planning for this to be a single event, we will be measuring player response to inform our future plans.”

Players can have 6v6 fights unlike Overwatch 2 (5v5) and guess what- no hero limits, no restrictions. Want a whole team of Genji? Go for it. But this freedom will last only for the first few days. Blizzard mentioned,

“After that, we will enable single hero limits for the remainder of this first Overwatch: Classic event.”

Fan-Favorite Maps and Abilities Make a Comeback

It includes 21 heroes and what’s more bewildering is their old abilities are restored to their original state- making this mode even better than players imagined.

Cassidy’s OG Flashbang is here, Hunzo got the Scatter Arrow, and the list continues- Blizzard has been dropping hints for weeks— Now, the curtain has lifted, and players can again step into the world that was crafted 8 years ago.

Let’s not forget that it’s not a new installment but an event introduced in an already-existing game. Besides this Players can battle on 12 original maps, including Hanamura and Temple of Anubis- these are no longer available in OW2. In Q&A (in-post) it is Said about skins that,

“As part of the nostalgia of playing Overwatch: Classic, players will be using only the original Overwatch default skins for this event.”

Whether the classic mode gets extended or becomes a permanent part, until the official confirmation everything seems vague, but as long as it’s available players should enjoy each moment, savoring the event like a fleeting sunset.
