  • Iconic producer Quincy Jones passed away last week at the age of 91
  • Jones’ passing drew an outpouring of tributes from countless musicians and celebrities
  • Jones had been privately living with serious illness for years

Quincy Jones, who passed away at the age of 91 last week, had been suffering from pancreatic cancer, his death certificate has revealed.

At the time of the iconic music producer’s passing, no cause of death was given, but after CNN were able to obtain Jones’ death certificate, it was revealed that Jones had in fact passed away from the pancreatic cancer he had been battling for years.

No other contributing factors led to Jones’ death, with the producer keeping his cancer diagnosis out of the public domain.

A private family funeral was held for Jones in Los Angeles exactly a week after his passing, which was said to be an “intimate ceremony included Mr. Jones’ seven children, his brother, two sisters, and immediate family members”per NME. A larger, public memorial is also planned for the man widely recognised as one of the most influential composers and producers in music history.

Jones’ daughter, the actor and director Rashida Jones, paid tribute to her father in a touching post on Instagram last week, in which she remembered her ‘nocturnal’ father.

Writing on Instagram, Jones said, “He was a giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius.

“All accurate descriptions of my father but his music (and ALL of his work) was a channel for his love. He WAS love.
He made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen. That’s his legacy.

“I was fortunate enough to experience this love in close proximity. I’ll miss his hugs and kisses and unconditional devotion and advice. Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever.”
