Call of Duty fans are extremely disappointed after Activision has confirmed the involvement of AI in generating in-game content, and players are negatively responding to it.

AI in Black Ops 6: Truth Finally Revealed

For months, Call of Duty players have been noticing some details that didn’t seem to be created by the artists themselves; they suspected that developers are using AI to craft the internal assets of the game.

Although despite the suspicion, Activision didn’t come forward to speak anything about it, now Steam policy has made it happen. The platform’s new rules demands developers to be open and clear about the use of AI in the game.

In compliance with this new rule Activision has finally admitted the involvement of AI in Black Ops 6, “Our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in-game assets.”

The controversy started when players spotted strange details in loading screens and calling cards. The most noticeable issue was with the image of Zombie Santa Claus, which displayed six fingers, which made fans think that something fishy was going on, as such mistakes cannot happen by real artists or creators.

Fans React: Frustration Over AI-Generated Assets

While Activision remained silent, fans continued to suspect, and now they were right all this time. However, Activision still has not specifically mentioned what kind of assets they are utilizing AI for.

After the confirmation, fans are frustrated as they always turn down the use of AI in gaming as they believe AI lowers the quality of visuals and also takes away the originality of content or the overall game.

Activision has done it before, as IGN reported, in July the AI geberated cosmetic item was sold in MW3 as a part of paid bundle for $15. When players found out they called out the team as lethargic and the content with no inspiration. In modern era the use of AI is inevitable and the gaming industry and bigger companies are also incorporating it in their titles.

This doesn’t seem bad but developers need to utilize it carefully so the games’ original essence may not get affected and also that it may not replace the real artists who bring life and uniqueness to these titles with their creativity and distinct inspirations.
