After a series of teases and leaks, it has finally been revealed that the Black Ops franchise is back for a sixth outing.

The news was confirmed on the official Call of Duty account (@CallofDuty) on X – formerly Twitter – with a post promising “A dark new chapter of the Black Ops franchise begins.”

Cryptic posts

It comes with a three wolf head image, which are the same as those on files found in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which at the time were said to have connections to the next game in the series.

This has been followed by a series of cryptic posts hinting at the plot for the game. One read: “There are two sides to every story. The one they tell you… and the truth.” With two pictures of a news truck, one with the legend ‘The Truth Lies’ on one shot, and ‘In lies we trust’ on the other.

Another shot video showed a printing press, and a hand holding a copy of The New York Post bearing a headline of ‘An American Cover Up’ and a picture of the iconic Mount Rushmore having been defaced.

No long wait

As teasers go, it is intriguing but doesn’t really give away too many hints as to what fans can expect when the game drops. But fans won’t have long to wait to find out more – until June 9, to be exact when, following the Xbox Games Showcase, there will be an in depth look into the game.

The game is slated for release in October. It is the first in the Black Ops series since 2020’s Cold War.
