Are there such things as aliens? If a group of academics are to be believed, they aren’t the stuff of science fiction and are already walking among us.
Academics from the Human Flourishing program at the prestigious Harvard University have published a paper saying that aliens may already be living on the Earth, or on a base inside the Moon.
In addition, they put forward the idea that unidentified flying objects (UFOs) are just aliens coming to visit their mates who are based on Earth.
Living among us
One of the biggest ideas in the paper, titled ‘The cryptoterrestrial hypothesis: A case for scientific openness to a concealed earthly explanation for Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena’ is ‘cryptoterrestrials’ – these could be aliens that are living among us, disguised as humans so they fit in, or have come from the distant future of Earth or have evolved from intelligent dinosaurs.
While this might sound like the researchers had been watching too many sci-fi box sets, the idea behind the study was to provide alternate theories for UFO sightings and what their meaning could be.
Another theory explored in the paper was ‘magical cryptoterrestrials’ – basically, fairies and elves.
Taken seriously
However, the authors of the study do appreciate that their theories might not be taken seriously by some people. As reported by the New York Post, they say: “The principal weakness of [the paper] is its utter strangeness, particularly for readers schooled to limit themselves to modes of explanation within the bounds of, say, the standard model of physics.
The paper has yet to be peer reviewed – the system by which scientific papers are reviewed by other academics to verify them.
