- Peacock has just announced four more cancellations
- Netflix and Prime have also slashed from their schedules
- Pilot Season is followed quickly by Cancellation Season

Peacock have just axed four shows as pilot season leads into cancellation season.
And the NBC streaming service isn’t the only platform lightening its load.
Netflix and Prime Video have also trimmed shows from their schedules, as they make way for new content coming through this year. And more casualties could be on the way in the coming weeks.
With new shows being approved for debut seasons, streaming services are looking for places where they can trim the fat of their current offerings. And unfortunately, some well liked and well reviewed programmes are falling by the wayside.
Peacock Drops Four Shows
Peacock are the latest streaming platform to wield the axe. Just two seasons in and Based On A True Story – the murder heavy comedy thriller starring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina – aired its final episode on April 15. Mockumentary series Mr Throwback has also been cut after just one season, despite a popular pairing of Adam Pally and NBA superstar Steph Curry. The show had been described as a combination of Abbott Elementary and Uncut Gems.
Also on Peacock’s hitlist were horror series Teacup, which received just one eight-episode season, finishing up in January. Hysteria! also failed to reach more than one season. This despite hitting 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 86% from fans on the Popcornmeter. The Satanic Panic-era mystery series starred Modern Family favourite Julie Bowen.
Netflix and Prime Also Making Cuts
Netflix have left legions of fans outraged over the cancellation of Mindhunter after two seasons. Producer David Fincher said of the decision, “It’s a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn’t attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment.” Many fans have not bought budgetary issues as the reason for Mindhunter’s cancellation, though. Especially when the show fared so strongly with critics (97% on Rotten Tomatoes) and fans (95%) alike.
Spy adventure The Recruit was also cancelled after two seasons, last month.
Over on Amazon Prime, Bosch: Legacy and Cruel Intentions have both been brought to an end. But it is perhaps CBS who have been busiest in placing shows on the chopping block. The network have axed six shows ahead of the 2025-26 season; Blue Bloods (although a spin-off, Boston Blue, has been greenlit), FBI: Most Wanted, FBI: International, S.W.A.T., Poppa’s House and The Summit.
While Blue Bloods was confirmed to be coming to an end in late 2023, fans had been hopeful the long running police drama series would still be renewed. However, CBS opted against a 15th season and decided to run with spin-off Boston Blue, which will star Donnie Wahlberg in his role as Danny Reagan.
At least we can all calm ourselves down safe in the knowledge that It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia is returning for a 17th season.
