Fans of noir thrillers and Spider-Man rejoice – the Spider-Man Noir series is a step closer with Amazon releasing its first teaser image for it.
About a year since the announcement of the live-action Spider-Man Noir series being green lit, Amazon has released its first teaser image for the series as part of its upfronts presentation.
Here is all we know about Spider-Man Noir.
Who is Spider-Man Noir?
Spider-Man Noir is an alternate version of the web-slinger we all know and love. He is part of Marvel’s Noir universe (Earth-90214), which reinterprets familiar characters in a hardboiled/crime noir atmosphere – a genre first popularised by authors such as Raymond Chandler in the 1930 and 40s. Spider-Man Noir first appeared in comics in 2009 as part of the Marvel Noir line.
The character also appeared in the 2019 movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In recent appearances in the comics, he has more closely resembled his look in the Spider-Verse films.
This series will be the first time Spider-Man Noir has been seen in live action form.
What is the plot?
Spider-Man Noir, which will take its cues from the comic books, focuses on an aging and down on his luck private investigator, Peter Benjamin Parker, in 1930s New York, who has to grapple with his past as the city’s one and only superhero.
Expect lots of brooding and mob henchmen being dispatched in a moody style.
Who is in Spider-Man Noir?
Nicolas Cage is in the fedora as Spider-Man Noir, reprising a role he first appeared in in animated form in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
There is a strong cast of supporting actors too. Irish actor Brendan Gleeson – best known for In Bruges – is playing a mob boss, with Jack Huston as his bodyguard.
In addition, Larmorne Morris plays journalist Robbie Robertson. Also confirmed to be appearing – although the roles haven’t been disclosed – are Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li and Karen Rodriguez.
The series is being developed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, who produced the Spider-Verse films, along with Amy Pascal. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot are also on board as co-showrunners and executive producers.
Is this part of the Spider-Verse or MCU?
The quick answer is no and no. While Cage’s Spider-Man Noir looks very much like his Spider-Verse incarnation, it has been confirmed that they are not connected.
Likewise, this is standalone from the MCU: it hasn’t been developed by Sony Pictures Television rather than Marvel Studios.
When can we watch Spider-Man Noir?
Spider-Man Noir will be on Prime Video in 2026, according to Variety. Interestingly, there will be two versions available of the show – a time-appropriate black-and-white version and a colour equivalent.
