The Fast & Furious franchise has been delighting fans of popcorn action movies for about a quarter of a century now, and is one of the top grossing movie franchises of the 21st century, taking more than $7 billion at the global box office.

But the upcoming 11th movie in the main franchise is set to be the last – but fans shouldn’t fear as a Fast & Furious TV show is in the works, having been greenlit by Peacock, as Deadline has revealed.

But how will the action format of wafer-thin plot mixed with hugely impressive action sequences be converted to TV? Here is all we know about the Fast & Furious TV show.

Who is behind the Fast & Furious TV show?

Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman will be writing the show and acting as co-showrunners. Mike has worked on shows such as Sons of Anarchy and Shades of Blue over the years, and more recently Ponies. Wolfe also worked on Shades of Blue, as well as shows such as The Block Island Sound.

In addition, main star of the film franchise Vin Diesel is on board as an executive producer.

Why now for a TV show?

The Fast & Furious franchise has, to date, always been on the big screen (apart from the animated Fast & Furious Spy Racers series that ran on Netflix from 2019-21) but, as Vin revealed at NBCUniversal’s Upfront event in May, when the project was first announced, the desire to develop a TV show has been there for about a decade.

However, it had to be the right project. Vin said that when Donna Langley took over the oversight of NBCUniversal’s TV operation last year, as well as being head of Universal Studios, he knew it was the right time. “That’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family, will be protected in the TV space,” he said at the Upfront event.

Who is in the Fast & Furious TV show?

As yet, no details have been announced about the cast of the Fast & Furious TV show. Indeed, we don’t know whether – or if – it will involve characters from the final movie. However, Vin has said previously that fans are interested in the stories of the legacy characters, so that could be an indication of where the series could focus.

What’s next in the Fast & Furious universe?

The 11th and final film in the franchise, Fast Forever, is slated for release on March 17, 2028. Vin Diesel is starring in that, alongside Dwayne Johnson, Neal H Moritz, Samantha Vincent and Jeff Kirschenbaum. Vin has said the script is “the best… I have read in decades” and delivers a worthy conclusion to the long-running franchise.

There are also three other Fast & Furious projects in the works, according to Vin. While details of these projects are scant, it is known that Nick Wooton (The Endgame) and Charmaine DeGrate (House of the Dragon) are working on one, while Ingrid Escajeda (Griselda) and Joe Henderson (Lucifer) are working on the other two.

When and where will I be able to see the Fast & Furious TV show?

The Fast & Furious TV show will be shown on Peacock. A definitive date for when it will make it to air hasn’t ben revealed yet, other than it will be some time in 2028.
