Are Kieran Culkin and Macaulay Culkin close? It’s a question that many fans have been left wondering after the Succession star took home the Best Supporting Actor Oscar at last night’s Academy Awards ceremony.
Culkin won for his role in the comedy drama A Real Pain. Released in late 2024, the movie was directed by fellow actor and Culkin’s on-screen co-star Jesse Eisenberg.

It follows two cousins who get together to travel to Poland in order to learn more about their late grandmother and their family history. However, tensions soon rise as the pair come to terms with their family’s personal history with the holocaust.
Culkin beat out the likes of Culkin beat out fellow nominees like Guy Pearce for The Brutalist, Edward Norton for A Complete Unknown, Yuriy Borisov for the night’s big winner Anora and his Succession co-star Jeremy Strong for Donald Trump drama The Apprentice.

His touching and funny speech highlighted how his wife, Jazz Charton, said she’d have another child with the star as long as he won an Oscar. Family-growth plans aside, Culkin also thanked members of his own family – including his parents Kit Culkin and Patricia Brentrup, giving a specific shout-out to the latter.
However, his famous sibling Macaulay was noticeably absent and it got many fans wondering about their relationship.
Are Kieran Culkin and Macaulay Culkin related?
First off, yes Kieran Culkin and Macaulay Culkin are related. Kieran is the fourth of seven siblings and Macaulay’s younger brother.
Kieran’s siblings include 48-year-old Shane, 44-year-old Macaulay, 40-year-old Quinn, 37-year-old Christian and 35-year-old Rory. The Culkin brothers’ sibling Dakota was born in 1978 but sadly passed away following a car accident in 2008. She was 29-years-old.
Macaulay shot to fame as a child actor throughout the early 1990s, famously starring in 1990’s Home Alone and its 1992 sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Rory is also an actor.
Are Macaulay Culkin and Kieran Culkin close?
Kieran and Macaulay famously starred alongside each other in Home Alone and its Big Apple-set sequel. Macaulay played abandoned kid Kevin McCallister with Kieran playing his on-screen sibling, the bed-wetting Fuller.
According to quotes given by Kieran, the pair do seem to be as close as many regular siblings. When asked about his brother live-tweeting his appearance at the Golden Globes in 2019, Kieran said “Oh man! I haven’t seen that. I’m on no social media, so I did not see any of that.”
He also commented on his brothers support, saying “Because family. That’s easy, right? I mean, you got family.”
Macaulay has seemed very supportive of his brother’s newfound success. He even joked about it when his Succession character started to gain traction with critics and awards shows.
“Oh s—t! My brother is at the Golden Globes?! That is so cool,” he tweeted in 2019. “HOLY S—T KIERAN IS NOMINATED??? WHAT IS SUCCESSION?! Man, I should really answer his calls more often. Thanksgiving is going to be really awkward this year.”
