- While you’d be forgiven for typecasting pop star Ariana Grande, the actor has other roles in mind
- She appears to have her heart set on a horror – and described one part this year as ‘a dream role’
- Grande is currently starring as Glinda in Wicked

She may be playing a bubblegum pink witch in Wicked – but Ariana Grande has her eye on a more sinister role for her next movie.
The pop star – who stars as Glinda in the prequel to The Wizard of Oz – has revealed she is a huge fan of horror movies, and described a recent part played by Nicolas Cage as a “dream role”.
In a chat with Paul Mescal for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Grande, 31, attempted to get the Gladiator II star hooked on the thrillers.
“I can’t watch horror for love nor money. I cannot,” Mescal laughed. “I saw Longlegs recently. F*** me, cannot do it.”
But Grande persevered.
“That, and Late Night with the Devil were my two favourites of the year for horror,” she explained. “You have to see it, even just for the performance, you have to see it. It’s so brilliant.
“But isn’t that, Nicolas Cage’s role in that, isn’t that just kind of a dream role? That’s fun. That’s a great time.”
So as Grande perhaps opts to pivot her career back to acting, we’ll be seeing her in some grittier parts in the near future!
Grande claims Gladiator II and Wicked are ‘thematically intertwined’

Grande and Mescal also opened up about their two latest movies – which were dubbed ‘Glicked’, thanks to them both having the same release date of November 22.
While you’d be forgiven for getting confused – Wicked is the all-singing, all-dancing prequel to The Wizard of Oz, while Gladiator II is… Gladiator II – Grande made some excellent comparisons between both films.
“I feel like our movies are strangely similar. I know that sounds absolutely absurd, but I really do feel like they are,” she mused. “Because there are strong themes of evil versus good; honestly, in certain ways, dictatorship. Corrupt government. They feel thematically intertwined.”
Mescal – who stars as gladiator Lucius in the Ridley Scott sequel – agreed, while also explaining that the movies work very well together in other ways.
Referencing the fact that both films debuted in the US on November 22, he added, “And also, not to sell the whole Glicked thing, but in terms of a double feature, thematically similar but then also totally different meals.”
“We’re really selling each other’s films quite well!” Grande laughed.
