The Powers twins witnessed the drama unfold, and in their on-screen interview, they spoke in perfect unison – a moment that has since gone viral.

In the clip – which shows the twins dressed identically – they finish each other’s sentences and even respond to the interviewer with the same words and hand gestures

Australian twins speak in sync – “run, he’s got a gun”

According to the pair, their mother had run over to help at the scene – only to be confronted by the gunman stepping out of the wreckage.

“And one guy, he was up there with our mum… he goes, run, he’s got a gun,” one sister recalled while the other repeated the same word-for-word. “And our heart started to pound. And I said, ‘Oh, mum, where’s mum?’ And poor mum was stuck up there.”

The Australian twins, who are founders of Twinnies Pelican and Seabird Rescue, told the news journalist that their mother, despite coming face-to-face with the armed man, was able to stay calm.

“But apparently our brave mum, she goes, ‘Are you alright?’ Because he had blood all over his face. And he goes: ‘I’ll shoot you.’ She goes: ‘Hey, I’m here to help,’”.

They explained, mimicking each other’s speech, how their Mum was able to get to cover, “Mum was distracting him to make him look the other way and he looked the other way and Mum ran into the bush behind the fence and the guy goes, “I’ll find you and I’ll shoot you”.’

The twins and their mother escaped the real-life chaos safely – but now, as overnight viral sensations, they’re facing a whole new kind of chaos: the Internet’s reaction.

The Internet reacts

The moment is already being branded “The greatest news interview of all time”, as one user on X told people “Nothing can prepare you for what happens 20 seconds into this clip”.

Another user likened the Australian twins to characters in a “scene you couldn’t script”, and added “Australia can’t be real”.

Elsewhere, one person wondered if they could keep a straight face as the news reported and called it “mind boggling”.

Others are calling for Hollywood to make a film or documentary about the twins, saying “Can you imagine if these two were neighbors in some sitcom? Hilarity!”

The twins have since appeared on The Project tv chat show, where the hosts challenged only Paul to answer one of the questions. They also discussed their romantic lives claiming they were “too busy for boyfriends”.
