- Casting for the project will take place very soon

Cult director Baz Luhrmann’s next project has been confirmed – a movie about French icon Joan of Arc.
French icon
The movie, styled as Jehanne d’Arc, was confirmed by Warner Bros, as reported by Deadline.
Joan of Arc was a teenager when she led a French army to victory in a battle at Orleans in 1429. After numerous subsequent battles she was eventually captured and was burned at the stake in 1431. She was made into a Saint in the 20th Century and is now the patron saint of France.
Joan of Arc claimed to be guided by visions from saints to help save Charles VII and France from English domination. Her story has been told in numerous TV shows and movies over the years, including The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, which starred Mila Jovovich.
Successful career
This is the latest project for Luhrmann, who pulled out of the English language adaptation of Russian novel The Master and Margarita earlier this year. He pulled back from the project due to concerns over book rights.
Luhrmann has been a successful movie director for more than 30 years. His first success came with Strictly Ballroom in 1992. Since then, he has directed films including Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge and Elvis to great success. He has also worked extensively in music production, including the international hit single ‘Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen).
The Jehanne d’Arc project is at a relatively early stage. A casting call will go out soon, so details about who will be starring in it and production timelines are likely to follow next year.
