Becky Lynch has traded her wrestling boots for golf spikes, after an Instagram post confirmed her upcoming role in the new Happy Gilmore 2 film.
The upcoming sequel to the legendary 1996 Adam Sandler comedy is due out on Netflix later this year and will also star honorary WWE Superstar Bad Bunny as well as fellow wrestler, AEW’s Maxwell Jacob Friedman, better known as MJF.
Lynch, who has not been seen on WWE television since losing a WWE Women’s Championship match to Liv Morgan on Raw, in May, is reported to have signed a new contract with the company and is expected to be back on TV in the coming weeks, with the upcoming Royal Rumble on February 1 a potential return date.
In her six months away from the ring, it would appear The Man has favoured the fairways over walking the aisle, and took to Instagram, bedecked in a Boston Bruins sweater reminiscent of the jersey Sandler sports in the original movie, to show off her driving power.
With the instantly identifiable ‘Tuesday’s Gone’ by Lynyrd Skynyrd playing as a hat tip to the original Gilmore movie, the New York Times best selling author hammers a ball greenwards and delivers a little Shooter McGavin-esque blow to her club as she walks off camera.
Captioned “The price is right, Becks” (a nod to the iconic Bob Barker fight scene in the original film) Lynch then tagged Netflix and added the hashtag #HappyGilmore2. The role will not be Lynch’s first outside WWE, however, as she cameo’d in Showtime Drama ‘Billions’ as, well, Becky Lynch and NBC sitcom ‘Young Rock’, based on the life of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, where Lynch played Cyndi Lauper.
Adam Sandler shared the first teaser trailer for the upcoming film on Christmas Day, with returning stars Christopher McDonald and Julie Bowen both making appearances as well as Kansas City Chiefs star and Mr. Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce also showing up. Several photos taken on set recently also showed Ben Stiller returning as the psychotic nursing home orderly Hal L, too.
Filming wrapped in December but, at the time of writing, no official release date has been revealed for the sequel.
