The BRIT Awards are the biggest night in UK music.

And while we will have to find out who wins the majority of the prizes at tomorrow’s ceremony (March 1), it has already been announced that Charli XCX will take home the coveted Songwriter of the Year award. 

The prize was only set up in 2022, and is decided upon by a select panel of expert judges, with previous winners including Raye, Ed Sheeran and Kid Harpoon.

Damian Christian, Managing Director and President of Promotions at Atlantic Records (part of Warner Music UK) and Chair of the BRIT Committee for 2025 said, “Charli has had an undeniable year, taking her experimental brand of electronic and pop from underground raves to the heart of mainstream culture.

“Charli’s songwriting is distinctive, bold and relentlessly innovative, and, having been one of the UK’s leading songwriters for a number of years now, has taken her craft to new heights with her global phenomenon Brat.

“I’m delighted she has been recognised for this much deserved award.”

Fans react to Charli XCX’s BRIT Award

Ever the joker, however, Charli was quick to poke fun at herself for bagging the prestigious award. 

Taking to Twitter/X, the singer, 32, shared a post about the news – before captioning it with her own lyrics. 

“Yeah I wanna dance to me me me me me. When I go to the club club club club club club” – Charli XCX, songwriter of the year xx,” she joked. 

Charli’s fans were quick to get onboard with her self-roast. 

“I’d say ‘bumpin’ that’ had a bigger impact than any other lyric last year,” wrote one, referencing her track, 365. 

Others were much kinder.

“Everything Is Romantic won you that award girl, keep it up!!!” praised one, while another added, “I’d argue it was I Think About It All The Time and I Might Say Something Stupid and maybe even Rewind!!! Charli just gave it her all this album.”

Someone else agreed, “No one does it like her. The club anthem queen.”

Charli XCX will not perform at the BRIT Awards

While Charli leads this year’s BRIT Awards with five nominations – including Artist of the Year, Mastercard Album of the Year, Song of the Year with Mastercard, Dance Act, and Pop Act – she will not perform at the ceremony. 

Instead, fans will get to enjoy performances from artists such as Sabrina Carpenter, Teddy Swims and JADE.

Shaboozey, Sam Fender and Lola Young will also take to the stage, as well as Myles Smith and The Last Dinner Party.

Just days before the ceremony takes place, it was announced that Ezra Collective will perform, alongside their special guest, Jorja Smith.
