• First teaser trailer sets up the plot for the new iteration of Captain America
  • Surprise character appearance at the end of the trailer
  • Harrison Ford will play a central role taking over as Thaddeus Ross

The first trailer for the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World film has dropped and caused a sensation with some big character and plot reveals.

This is the first film in a new iteration of Captain America, with the character of Sam Wilson taking over the mantle from Steve Rogers.

Surprise entrance

In the trailer, President Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross – played by Harrison Ford – sets up the story in voiceover, asking Sam if he wanted to take over, with Cap becoming an official tool of the US Army, which doesn’t still well with Sam.

There is plenty of action too, as Isaiah – who fans will know from the Disney+ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier – attempts to assassinate Ross. We also see Sam’s new suit, which includes the kind of wings he used to have as Falcon.

But it is the end of the trailer that has sent Marvel fans into a frenzy. In it, we see the Red Hulk catch Cap’s shield and slam it into the ground.

Back to the comics

This indicates that the plot of the film may be going back to the comic books for inspiration – Bolt became the Red Hulk back in 2008. This version of the Hulk is more tactically astute than his green counterpart, although they both possess the same powers.

The character of Ross has been seen before on several occasions in the MCU, going right back to 2008’s The Incredible Hulk and being last seen in 2021’s Black Widow, although on those occasions he was played by William Hurt.

Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14, 2025.
