Coca Cola has announced a permanent new flavour to its line-up – Coca Cola Spiced is set to hit shelves imminently.

The new flavour, made with raspberry and a blend of aromatic spices, will go on sale in the US and Canada on February 19, and will debut in other territories around the world soon after. It will be available in regular and zero sugar versions, and in a range of can and bottle sizes, as well as multipacks.

The new flavour, the first to be released by Coca Cola in three years, is seeking to capitalise on the trend for spiced drinks, especially among Gen Z.

In a post on LinkedIn, Shakir Moin, chief of marketing for Coca Cola North America, said that the drink is “inspired by Humanity & Crafted by our world-class R&D team to develop a truly delicious and refreshing product that balances a blend of spices with raspberry.”

Moin added that the new drink has had the fastest product development in the company’s recent history at just seven weeks. Usually new flavours can take up to a year to develop.

What spices go into the new flavour have not been confirmed – but then Coca Cola isn’t known for being upfront about the recipes for their drinks – but it has been reported that the taste is like a ramped-up version of Coke, but with a hint of raspberry.

The new drink is a return to traditional product development methods. Last year, the drinks giant released Coca‑Cola Y3000 Zero Sugar — which was co-created by human and artificial intelligence (AI).

By combining global fan inputs and AI insights, Coca‑Cola generated the taste by weighing in on “how fans envision the future through emotions, aspirations, colours, flavours and more,” according to a press release of the time.
