A very recognisable new resident might be swinging into the White Lotus for season three. Or at least, he’s desperately trying to.
Comedian and talk show legend Conan O’Brien has recently revealed that he pitched an idea to White Lotus creator Mike White to be a character in the upcoming season, which is set in Thailand.
The multiple Emmy Award winning series has previously seen seasons take place in Hawaii and Sicily, starring the likes of Sydney Sweeney, Aubrey Plaza, Theo James, Jennifer Coolidge, Michael Imperioli, Murray Bartlett and Alexandra Daddario.
And now Conan wants to check in.
Speaking during a recent episode of his Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast, the former Simpsons writer explained that he actually pitched an idea to Mike White during a run-in at a restaurant.
While chatting with upcoming season three star Walton Goggins, O’Brien said, “Before you guys started shooting, I ran into none other than Mike White in a restaurant. We start chatting because we’ve met each other once or twice before and he’s a very funny, cool guy. I said, ‘Hey, so the next season of The White Lotus, you’re going down to Thailand, right?’ And he said, ‘Yeah.’ And I said, ‘I was there. I had a great time. I made a lot of friends.’”
And as it turns out, White had a role in mind for O’Brien, which the comedian was more than willing to play.
“I said, ‘If there’s a part for me, I’m available.’ He looked at me and he said, ‘You know, there’s a lot of sex work there,’ “And I said, ‘I could do that.’ … I could play a part where I’m a male gigolo or something.”
Now, while O’Brien may not be the first person who immediately springs to mind when picturing a gigolo (no offence, Conan), Goggins was of the belief that the former talk show host could play the part successfully.
“Yes, you could do that. I believe that you could do that” the Righteous Gemstones actor laughed.
“Do you think I could play that part or do you think I actually could be a gigolo?” O’Brien asked before Goggins replied, “I think you could do both. I think you could play that part and you could be that person in real life.”
With the White Lotus Thailand throwing open its doors in 2025, it’s probably a little too late for Conan to bag himself a spot for season three. But season four?
