The ceremony is some way off for the moment, set to take place at the Crypto.com arena in downtown LA on February 2. However, organisers are reportedly planning for all possible scenarios.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, multiple sources have said discussions are ongoing over what to do about the ceremony. One possibility is the ceremony is postponed, the other that the broadcast becomes a fundraiser for the victims of the fires and the firefighters. It will largely depend on what happens with the fires in the coming days.
A benefit concert is also being planned with the involvement of the Grammys’ charity MusiCares. The gig will take place on January 30 at the Intuit Dome. The line-up has not yet been announced.
Why might the Grammys be postponed?
For one, the fires are still burning and it remains unknown when they will be fully contained. As such, the state of California remains under a disaster warning.
The fires present a host of issues for the Grammys. Many people in the music business, as well as musicians themselves, have had to evacuate and may have lost their homes and possessions, including instruments.
In addition, the Crypto.com Arena has also already postponed several scheduled sports events this week “to focus on what matters most”.
Has the Grammys been postponed before?
The Grammys ceremony has been postponed twice in recent years.
In 2021, the ceremony was pushed back from January to March due to another surge of COVID-19. The same thing happened in 2022 over concerns about the spread of the Omicron variant.
What effect has the LA fires had on the entertainment industry?

According to Variety, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has pushed back the voting deadline for this year’s Oscars nominations. Consequently, this year’s nominees will be revealed two days later than planned.
Several events have been cancelled due to fires, including the premieres for movies such as Unstoppable, Wolfman and Better Man.
The expected SAG Award nomination livestream featuring Joey King and Cooper Koch was also axed. Instead, nominations were announced by a press release.
In addition, the Critics Choice Awards were pushed back from January 12 to January 26.
Meanwhile, Hacks star Jean Smart called on the executives behind the ceremonies to think about not televising the spectacles. She has urged them to instead donate to victims and relief efforts.
