Adolescence has been a smash hit for Netflix this spring and now Brad Pitt’s production company is interested in making a second season of the drama.

Deadline has reported that Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment is in early talks with the director of the Adolescence about the “next iteration” of the show.

Speaking to Deadline, Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner said they were in talks with Philip Barantini, who directed Adolescence, about where the show could go in a second season.

Gardner added that they were looking at how to “widen the aperture, stay true to its DNA, [and] not be repetitive.”

Adolescence was co-created and written by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne. Graham also starred in the drama as Eddie Miller, the father of Jamie, the boy at the centre of action. Kleiner expressed his hope that the duo would return on the next season.

Adolescence huge success

That there are talks about another season of Adolescence should come as no surprise given the show’s success.

The series told the story of a 13-year-old schoolboy arrested for the murder of a girl at his school, having been drawn into a world of misogyny online. It shows the reality of teenage knife crime and how it impacts entire families.

Adolescence generated an enormous 24.3 million views in its first four days after release. In its first full week (March 17-23) it amassed a staggering 42 million, taking its total to 66.3 million. The number shattered the record for number of views for a limited series in its opening two weeks. Now, it has 114.5 million views, making it Netflix’s fourth most watched English language show, according to Deadline.

Busy team

However, some of the team behind Adolescence are already busy on their next project. Warp Films, one of the production companies on Adolescence have reportedly signed on to do a remake of the infamous 1984 TV movie Threads.

Threads was drama that showed the impact and  fall out from a nuclear war. It focused on a group of survivors of a nuclear bomb in the English city of Sheffield. The drama focused on the horrors and dangers in the aftermath of the bomb going off.

Since its release, Threads has become infamous for its horror elements, and wasn’t repeated on TV for nearly 40 years.
