Superman is about to land – and he’ll have a brand new face courtesy of actor David Corenswet.
Over the years, a handful of stars have brought DC’s Man of Steel to life. Perhaps most famous is Christopher Reeve who played Clark Kent and his Kryptonian alter-ego for director Richard Donner in 1978.
Reeve continued to wear the tights for three sequels that took him all the way up to 1987. After that, the role lay dormant (on the big screen at least) until filmmaker Bryan Singer cast Brandon Routh in his 2006 reboot Superman Returns.

Most recently, the role had been carried by Henry Cavill who played Superman in Zack Snyder’s 2013 revival Man of Steel. Cavill continued to play Supes sporadically throughout DC’s Extended Universe which included two Justice League movies.
However, in 2022 a studio reboot was unveiled with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn and his producing partner Peter Safran at the helm. A new Superman movie to be directed by Gunn was also announced and not long afterwards, the world met its new Kal-El.
So who is this new Superman? Here’s what we know.
Who is the new Superman in 2024?
Actor David Corenswet will play Clark Kent AKA Superman for Gunn in his 2025 Superman movie. The star was officially confirmed in June 2023 alongside The Marvelous Mrs Mavel’s Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
According to reports, Corenswet beat out actors like Saltburn’s Jacob Elordi and Grantchester’s Tom Brittany and took part in multiple costume tests to secure the coveted role.
With filming underway, Gunn shared our first look at Corenswet in costume in May 2024. Posting to Threads, the director’s photo featured a caption urging fans to “get ready.”

What films has David Corenswet starred in?
31-year-old Corenswet has a short but impactful film and television career under his belt. However, Superman is sure to be his breakout role.
On the small screen, you may recognise him from roles in the likes of Sherlock Holmes spin-off Elementary and Netflix drama House of Cards. He also starred as River Barkley in Ryan Murphy’s The Politician which ran from 2019 to 2020 on Netflix.
In 2022, he played David McDougall in the miniseries We Own This City before starring in the Apple TV+ thriller Lady in the Lake in 2024.
On the big screen, he played the doomed love interest of Pearl in director Ti West’s horror sequel of the same name and earlier in 2024 he starred in the rom-com The Greatest Hits.
The same year saw him star alongside Glen Powell as Scott in the 2024 Twisters sequel-reboot. Still, it’s Supes that’s bound to make him a household name.
