Dua Lipa has paid her respects to Duo after Duolingo revealed he had died

Duolingo has got a pop superstar, Dua Lipa, to pay her respects to their fallen mascot, Duo the Owl.

Lipa offered her condolences to the bird, who was revealed to have passed away by the popular language learning app in a shock statement.

This comes after the announcement concluded with a request to “respect Dua Lipa’s privacy at this time.”

“Til’ death duo part,” The Training Season hitmaker wrote on X.

What does Dua Lipa have to do with it?

The pop princess has been a huge running gag in a lot of its marketing. Obviously, much of this is centred around how her name is very similar to the app, which teaches millions over 30 languages.

Lipa has previously gotten in on the joke and made gags about it in interviews, going so far as to suggest a collab.

What has Duolingo revealed about Duo’s passing?

The app broke the news of the bird’s death on Tuesday “with great sorrow” on social media.

“It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mascot, Duo the Owl. For years, he tirelessly reminded millions to do their language lessons − sometimes with gentle nudges, sometimes with sheer, unhinged persistence. But even the most relentless of birds can only take so much.”

“We’re aware he had many enemies,” the company continued. “Tbh (to be honest), he probably died waiting for you to do your lesson, but what do we know.”

Many questions emerged with the outpouring of grief, but the circumstances around his passing remain under wraps.

When was he last seen alive?

Duo was last seen not up trying to woo Lipa, who is rumouredly engaged to her man Callum Turner, but instead turning his attention to a new target; winding up Drake.

It might have been a cheap shot because he had been given a lot of material from Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance of the five-time Grammy-winning diss track, Not Like Us.

The hit song was written as part of a rap beef between the two artists after years of feuding.
