- Ed Sheeran was heavily criticised for interrupting the new Manchester United head coach
- Amorim was giving his first post-match interview as United boss
- Sheeran took to Instagram to apologise to the Portuguese manager

Ed Sheeran has taken to Instagram to offer his apologies to Ruben Amorim, after the singer-songwriter interrupted the new Manchester United head coach’s post-match interview, yesterday (November 24).
Following United’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town, in Amorim’s first game in charge of the Red Devils, the Portuguese head coach was conducting an interview with Sky Sports when Sheeran made his presence felt. The ‘Lego House’ singer had been in attendance at Portman Road as a diehard Tractor Boys fan and partial investor in the club. Sheeran also sponsors the club’s home and away shirts.
As Sheeran laughed with Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, he laughingly said, “I don’t think he wants to speak to me” in reference to Amorim. The cameo was not well appreciated by fans, however, who voiced their displeasure at both the Grammy Award winner’s conduct and at Sky allowing the interruption to happen in the first place.
Today, though, Sheeran has attempted to make amends by taking to his Instagram story to offer an apology to the Red Devils’ boss, who was taking part in his first post-match interview in English football on Sunday.
On his story, Sheeran wrote, “Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday, didn’t actually realise he was being interviewed at the time, was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie. Obvz feel a bit of a b***end but life goes on. Great game though, congrats on all involved x”.

Despite only winning once in their opening 12 games since they were promoted from The Championship, Ipswich have impressed in spells, including Sunday’s game against United and in an excellent away victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Omari Hutchinson, who scored the equaliser against United on Sunday, and Liam Delap in particular have caught the eye.
Sheeran will be hoping they continue to impress as his team aim to avoid relegation back down to The Championship at the first time of asking.
