Elisabeth Olsen, who plays Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is returning to the MCU in an upcoming series, it has been confirmed.
Zombies rising
Olsen has been cast in the Marvel Zombies animated series, which is set to debut next year. Marvel Zombies is a spinoff from the Disney+ animated series What if…? In the latter, Olsen voiced Scarlet Witch, who later became Zombie Scarlet Witch – and it will be this version of the character we will see in the series.
At the recent D23 event, attendees got a sneak preview of the four-episode series. It showed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings characters Shang-Chi, Katy Chen and Xu Wenwu overrun by a mass of zombies. The story then picks up five years in the future, revealing a dystopian world that didn’t survive the apocalypse.
Along with Olsen, other names confirmed to be lending their voices to the show include Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova in Black Widow), Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye/Kate Bishop in Hawkeye and The Marvels), Todd Williams (Blade), and Iman Vellani (Kamala Khan/Ms Marvel in Ms Marvel and The Marvels).
Live-action return?
There has been a lot of speculation about the future for Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, ever since she appeared to die during Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. This speculation ramped up again recently when the character didn’t reappear in Agatha All Along.
However, Olsen herself has said she would be open to playing Scarlet Witch again, if there was a good way to use her.
Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige has also teased that Scarlet Witch might return in the future at D23. As reported by Omelete, he said: “Many questions have remained in fans’ minds about Wanda… So, all I can say is we are excited to find out when and how Scarlet Witch can return.”
Marvel Zombies is slated to hit Disney+ on October 3, 2025.
