Elon Musk has explained the reason he is so keen to colonise Mars.

The Tesla CEO went into detail about his desire to make the Red Planet a place suitable for human life via his space travel company Space X. The tech giant is working towards building equipment to make it a possibility.

Speaking to Fox News, he said, “So, eventually, all life on Earth will be destroyed by the sun. The sun is gradually expanding, and so we do at some point need to be a multi-planet civilization because Earth will be incinerated.”

“Mars is life insurance for life collectively,” he asserted.

Musk added that he wants to make Mars a place for humans to live to ensure the “survival of civilisation”.

“We have a long way to go because it’s not just about landing on Mars and doing flags and footprints,” he added.

Other than concerning himself with space colonisation, Musk has been dabbling in other affairs of great consequence for mankind. These include buying the social media platform Twitter, transforming it into X, the Everything App.

He has also teamed up with President Donald Trump to launch DOGE, otherwise known the Department of Government Efficiency. The acryonm is an homage to one of his favourite memes.

Aside from Elon Musk, are any other celebs working on commercial space travel?

Well, yes! Last month, Amazon founder Jeff Bezo’s firm Blue Origin launched its first ever woman-only mission into space. The eight-minute venture included pop princess Katy Perry.

After breaking out of the Earth’s atmosphere, the I Kissed A Girl himaker was met with backlash about the journey being wasteful.

It also included broadcaster Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez and others. Spectators on the ground included Kris Jenner and her daughter Khloe Kardashian.

On one of the many memes it inspired, director and filmmaker Olivia Wilde wrote on her Instagram Story, “Billion dollars bought some good memes, I guess.”

In response to the major backlash, Perry took to her Instagram to take aim at the “unhinged and unhealed” internet.
