David Fincher is still working on bringing a US remake of Squid Game to Netflix, according to various sources.

Quietly working

It has been said that Fincher, who has previously worked on series such as Mindhunter for Netflix, has been “quietly working” on a Squid Game remake for the past couple of years and is said to have brought Dennis Kelly – best known for Utopia – on board to write the scripts. Kelly is thought to have been working on them for some time.

Fincher has recently extended his exclusive contract with Netflix, which could mean that Squid Game is one of the projects he gets to work on. The Playlist has claimed that Fincher pivoted away from a Chinatown prequel to focus on Squid Game and it could be his next directing job.

However, little concrete is known about the project and what stage it may be at, and neither Fincher nor Netflix are saying anything on the record currently.

Squid Game second season

But what we do know is that Netflix viewers have a second season of the original South Korean Squid Game to look forward to. While Netflix has yet to confirm exactly when the show will drop, the show’s star, Lee Jung-jae, who plays Seong Gi-Hun, has said in recent interviews that it will be released in December.

Squid Game is still Netflix’s most-watched series of all time, having become a global phenomenon when it landing on the streaming service in September 2021 with viewers captivated by its creativity and violence. Once it had become successful, work on an English language version and a second season started soon afterwards.
