- Brad Pitt’s F1 movie has wrapped filming
- Various Formula 1 racers will also appear as themselves
- F1 will arrive in theaters next summer

Brad Pitt’s forthcoming film F1 looks like it could be a summer blockbuster.
The sports action film centers, as the title suggests, around the race car driving championship but tells an entirely fictional story. It is being produced in collaboration with FIA, its governing body. Meanwhile, Joseph Kosinki, who previously helmed Top Gun: Maverick, is directing.
Numerous real-life F1 stars, including Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and Sergio Pérez, are set to make cameo appearances. Hamilton is also working on the film as a producer and technical consultant.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has said that Hamilton’s input has been crucial in ensuring the film looks authentic.
“Lewis keeps us honest,” said Bruckheimer. “He looks at every race and he’d say, ‘you wouldn’t be in second gear in this moment. You’d be in first’.
“He comes in and he can hear the engine and the shifting and everything like that. So he looks at every race scene, and he also said, ‘In order to get one of these cars, you really have to be in shape’.”
Has the F1 release date been confirmed?
Yes – F1 is set to come to theaters in the US on June 27, 2025. The film will hit cinemas in the rest of the world from 25 June 2025.
Pitt has been filming at various race tracks for the film. In the summer, he went to the famous Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, UK for shooting. Filming also took place there during the British Grand Prix last year, a move which was made to bring greater authenticity to the film than sports films usually have.
In addition, Pitt has also paid visits to tracks in Las Vegas and more recently in Abu Dhabi.
Is there a trailer for Brad Pitt’s F1 movie?
Yes, the first trailer for the film dropped in October to coincide with the British Grand Prix. It shows numerous high-speed racing shots from around the world – including the iconic Spa Francochamps in Belgium – as well as accidents.
As with many recent films, filming took longer than expected due to the Hollywood strikes. Shooting began in July 2023. However, production wrapped in December 2024 in Abu Dhabi.
“We’ll stay here for the rest of the week doing pick-ups, and then we’re in the editing room,” explained F1 producer Jerry Bruckheimer. “About two-thirds of the movie is already cut. This will be the last race that we have (to) cut this together, and we’ll take a look at it.”
Who stars in F1?
Alongside Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Javier Bardem and Sarah Niles are all set to star in the film.
On top of this, all ten Formula One teams, drivers and team members, including Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz Jr., Sergio Pérez, Fernando Alonso and Benoit Treluyer will cameo as themselves.
Speaking of Hamilton’s involvement, Bruckheimer told The Athletic that the driver kept the production “honest”.
“They were very open about their experiences, what they went through getting to F1, (even their) superstitions,” said Bruckheimer of his professional stars. “We took little things that one driver did about this superstition, and Brad has that in his character.
“Lewis keeps us honest. Lewis looks at every race and goes, ‘You wouldn’t be in second gear in this turn, you would be in first,'” he added. “He comes in there, and he can hear the engine and the shifting and everything like that.”
What is the plot of F1?
Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a Formula One driver who raced in the ’90s but whose career came to an unexpected halt due to a severe crash.
Several decades later, an old friend calls him and coaxes him out of retirement to mentor newcomer Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) for the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP)
