- Sam Mendes (1917, Spectre, Skyfall) will direct the four films
- Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn and Barry Keoghan are rumoured to be starring
- Filming is expected to begin next summer

The Beatles’ lives and career will be brought to life all over again for the silver screen – and each one will get their own moment in the spotlight.
Earlier this year, director Sam Mendes announced his biggest filmic endeavour to date, directing not just one Beatles biopic, but four. Each one will tell the story of the band’s career through one member’s eyes.
“I’m honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies,” Mendes said in a statement at the time. He will be the first director to have full access to the life stories of each member and the Beatles’ music rights.
The biopics follow the three-part docuseries Get Back, which premiered on Disney+ in 2021. The Peter Jackson-directed series comprised over eight hours of archival footage.
Have the Beatles biopics release dates been confirmed?
The four films will land in theaters in 2027. It is unclear for now what order they will come out in.
According to Production List, the first film will begin shooting in London in July 2025.
Who will star in the Beatles biopics?

While the cast of the films hasn’t yet been confirmed, rumours of who could be playing each Beatle have been rife.
Sir Ridley Scott has claimed that Paul Mescal will be portraying Paul McCartney but Mescal has not yet corroborated this himself.
Meanwhile, Ringo Starr himself has said that Barry Keoghan will play him.
Last month, Starr, 84, shared his thoughts on the Oscar-nominated actor taking the role on.
“I think it’s great,” he said. “I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.”
However, the question of who will take the roles of John Lennon and George Harrison remain open-ended. Rumours suggest Harris Dickinson has been cast as Lennon, but when asked about it recently, he remained coy.
“It would be amazing to do that,” he told Variety. “I think the idea of Sam teaming up to do something like that would be incredibly exciting. Obviously, John Lennon is a very complex role, a pretty formidable force to try to do. It would be cool.”
There has been speculation of Charlie Rowe playing George Harrison, but other reports have suggested the part has gone to Stranger Things actor Joseph Quinn.
What is the plot of the Beatles biopics?
While the films will follow the trajectory of the Beatles’ career, more exact details are thin on the ground at present.
There’s a wealth of stories for Mendes to dive into, however, from their formation in Liverpool to their rise to success. They may explore how the Beatles conquered America, or perhaps their final gig in 1969 on the rooftop of their Apple Corps headquarters in London.
It’s also unknown how far the films will delve into their post-band life and solo ventures. Potentially, they could cover the murder of John Lennon in 1980 and Harrison’s death from cancer in 2001.
