It’s been two years since we last saw Ewan McGregor pick up his lightsaber in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi – but the star has hinted he could reprise the role again.

A new hope

McGregor starred in the six-episode season, which was warmly welcomed by fans and critics. But since then, there has been no official announcement on whether we will see a second season.

However, McGregor has said that he would like to reprise the role he has been playing for more than 20 years in films and television series. In an interview with Variety, McGregor said: “I really do hope we get a chance to do another [season]. Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guiness comes on the screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.”

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series was set 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, which saw the Jedi Order purged. It saw Obi-Wan emerge from hiding to rescue Princess Leia, who had been kidnapped by the Galactic Empire’s inquisitors. In doing so, he came up against his old protégé, Anakin Skywalker – now known as Darth Vader.

Series pulled or delayed

It is unclear if Disney plans to bring Obi-Wan Kenobi back. Disney has pulled back recently on Star Wars-related series. For instance, The Acolyte was cancelled after one series – which prompted furious responses from fans on social media.

Elsewhere, Ahsoka series two will not make it to air until after The Mandalorian and Grogu has appeared in cinemas – and the film is not slated to be released until mid-2026. It is also unclear if The Mandalorian will return for another series after the movie has been released.
