Lyra Valkyria is not content with merely making history. The first ever WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion wants to take on Hall of Famers, regardless of whether they’re men or women.

The former NXT Women’s Champion has been on a tear through both the developmental and main WWE roster over the past couple of years. In 2023 Valkyria defeated future HOF inductee Becky Lynch for NXT gold. In 2024 Valkyria fought one of the matches of WrestleMania week, against Roxanne Perez, at NXT Stand and Deliver in front of a sold out crowd of over 16,000 people at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Shortly after her title loss in the City of Brotherly Love, Valkyria made her way to Monday Night Raw and in almost no time found herself standing on the opposite side of the ring from Nia Jax in the Queen of the Ring final (in a match immortalised in virtual form, as well, in WWE 2K25’s upcoming Bloodline showcase mode). And while Valkyria would come up short against Jax for the crown, she only had to wait a few short months before commencing 2025 in historic manner by winning the inaugural Women’s Intercontinental Title tournament, with a memorable victory over Dakota Kai.

Not a bad 18 months or so, eh? But where does all this history lead to next for Valkyria? The Intercontinental champ has already revealed that she has her eyes sight on a potential match with Asuka at WrestleMania 41, this year. But what if she were to focus on the other side of the WWE roster?

As we discussed during our recent hands on preview of WWE 2K25, intergender matches have been introduced as a mode for the first time in the franchise’s history. And while the temptation is to pummel the likes of Dominik Mysterio and Grayson Waller with the likes of Valkyria, Bianca Belair, Rhea Ripley and Jade Cargill, the IC champ actually has a different target in mind for her dream intergender bout.

During our recent exclusive chat with Valkyria, the champ revealed she would rather face off against former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio.

“Any member of the men’s roster? I’m gonna say Rey Mysterio. I think we could have a pretty great back-and-forth match. Gimme Rey Mysterio. If I’m gonna take on someone, I’m gonna take on the best.”

While we may not see the match happen in an actual WWE ring any time soon, it would not be a bad one to play out in the virtual world when WWE 2K25 drops this coming month.

In the more immediate future, however, Lyra will be focusing on the road to WrestleMania which will take in a lengthy European tour in March, across nine countries in two-and-a-half weeks. The tour will include Monday Night Raw emanating from Brussels, Glasgow and London, while SmackDown will come live from Barcelona, Bologna and London.

WWE is available to watch on Netflix in the UK, including Raw, SmackDown, NXT, all Premium Live Events and the WWE archive.

Tickets to Friday Night SmackDown and Monday Night Raw at London’s O2 Arena this March are available now at axs.com
