Classic Nickelodeon animation Fairly OddParents is coming back to the kids’ channel in the Spring for a new series – but there are some major changes.

The show, which was created by Butch Hartman and originally ran from 2001-2017, is being rebooted as Fairly OddParents: A New Wish and is a direct sequel to the original show.

This time around, Wanda and Cosmo are back – having exited the original show to go on a 10,000 year across time and space – but will be granting wishes not for Timmy Turner but Hazel Wills.

Hazel is a young girl who has just moved to the city of Dimmadelphia, and is feeling lonely and unsure of herself as, not only is she trying to make friends in a new city, but her elder brother, Anthony, has left for college.

That’s where Cosmo and Wanda come in. They quickly reveal themselves as her magical guardians who can make her every wish come true – although they might be rusty after being on holiday for so long.

But it isn’t all change – fans of the original show will be delighted to know that Cosmo and Wanda’s original voice actors, Daran Norris and Susanne Blakeslee, are back to give the characters their distinctive tones.

Whether other characters, such as Cosmo and Wanda’s child, Poof, return too, remains to be seen.

The new series also marks a return to being a fully animated series. After the original series ended, there was a live-action sequel series made, where a grown-up Timmy entrusted his fairy godparents to his cousin and stepbrother. However, only 13 episodes were made.

There will be 20 episodes in the new series of Fairly OddParents: A New Wish, which will premiere on Nickelodeon in the spring. It will be available internationally through Netflix.
