Fans have paid tribute to Harry Potter cast member Simon Fisher-Becker who has sadly passed away at the age of 63.
Fisher-Becker played the Fat Friar in director Chris Columbus’s adaptation of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone in 2001. The Friar was the resident ghost of Hufflepuff at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The news was made official by Fisher-Becker’s husband Tony, who posted an update to Facebook on Monday 10 March 2025.
“Hello everyone. This is Tony, Simon’s husband,” the post began.
“I have some very sad news. At 2:50 this afternoon Simon passed away. I’ll be keeping this account open for a while. I’m not sure at this point if I’ll be posting again. Thank you.”
The actor’s passing was also confirmed by his agent Kim Barry who said they had lost a “close personal friend.”
“A writer, a raconteur, and a great public speaker”
“Today I lost not only a client in Simon Fisher-Becker, but a close personal friend of 15 years standing,” explained Barry.

“I shall never forget the phone call I made to him when he was offered the part of Dorium Moldovar in BBC’s Dr Who.”
Barry added “Simon was also a writer, a raconteur, and a great public speaker.
“He helped me out enormously and was kind, gracious and interested in everyone. My condolences go to his husband Tony, his brother, nieces and nephews and his legion of fans.”
Fans pay tribute to Harry Potter cast actor
Fans wasted no time paying tribute to Fisher-Becker online, with many praising the actor’s work in Doctor Who.
Here, he played Dorium Maldovar, a blue-skinned space alien who worked on an intergalactic black market.
One fan commented on the loss after meeting Fisher-Becker at a Comic-Con event. His post gave a glimpse of the actor as his Harry Potter character, the Fat Friar.
