The 2025 Oscars were filled with many talked about moments – and Adrien Brody was a hot topic of the night.
From the Emilia Pérez songwriters singing during their speech, to Conan O’Brien’s amazing jokes during his hosting gig, Brody’s lengthy words of thanks as he picked up the Best Actor gong for his role in The Brutalist are sure to go down in Oscars history.
But aside from the actor, 51, picking up his second award in the category – his first being for the 2002 movie, The Pianist – there was another part of the evening which also grabbed attention online.
As Brody, who was joined by his partner Georgina Chapman, chatted on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony, Halle Berry interrupted the interview he was giving.
Apologising to Chapman, Berry, 58, said she “had to do it”, and kissed Brody.
As onlookers cheered and applauded the smooch, fans online gave their thoughts.

The episode goes all the way back to 2003, when Brody picked up his first Oscar – and Berry was the presenter.
Walking onto the stage, Brody embraced Berry, kissed her and remarked, “I bet they didn’t tell you that was in the gift bag.”
The kiss made headlines, and Berry confirmed later that it had been unplanned and unexpected.

It seems that while Berry has forgiven Brody for the prior incident, she couldn’t resist getting her own back.
The fellow Oscar winner told Extra that for “22 years I’ve been waiting to get him on a red carpet and slap one on”.
Berry also told Variety, “That was one hell of a night for him, and for me as well. To be a part of his moment… tonight I had to pay him back.
“I’ve seen him out at parties, but this is the first time since that night that I’ve seen him on the red carpet somewhere. He’s nominated this year. He deserved that.”

Most fans were quick to back Berry up about the kiss.
“I think it’s her bizarre way of putting the 2003 thing, and any lingering feeling over it, in the past,” wrote one. “In a bizarre ‘two wrongs make it right’ way.”
Someone else added, “She did that s*** on purpose because he ain’t ask then and she ain’t ask now. Women’s rights.”
“He gave her unsolicited kiss during her acceptance speech 22 years ago,” another agreed. “She got her revenge and gave him an unsolicited kiss in front of his wife.”
Others noted that Brody appeared to kiss Berry back – branding the exchange as “wild”.
“Doing this in front of your wife is insane,” said one, as someone else wrote, “That drive home was probably hella awkward.”
Another point that fans observed was Chapman’s reaction.
“Being the spouse of an actor takes serious strength. Like, how are you just clapping while Halle Berry kisses your man right in front of you? Lmao, I would’ve ruined the whole night,” said one.
Another added, “Imagine Halle Berry kisses your man and you have to stand there clapping like a seal or you’re the bad guy.”
