She’s one of the biggest pop stars of 2024.

And fans were delighted this week when a video emerged of Chappell Roan’s humble origins.

In a clip shared to TikTok, the singer, 26, can be seen giving a rendition of her track Pink Pony Club to a crowd of around 50 people in a park.

Taken in 2021, Roan wears red trousers with a matching red lace top, as she stands and performs behind her keyboard.

Amazingly, the footage suddenly jumps to a more recent show of Roan’s – her slot at Austin City Limits Music Festival.

Taking to the stage in Zilker Park on October 6, Roan can be heard giving a rendition of the same song – but this time, she belts the track to a massive crowd.

According to the American Statesman, the artist drew in an “unprecedented crowd for a non-headliner in a sunset time slot”. While exact figures for the audience are unknown, drone footage shared by the festival shows thousands of people all packed into the American Express stage.

User withlovejohana, who created the edit, proudly captioned the video, “Can we just take a minute to cry together?!?”

‘It takes ten years to become an overnight success’

Others clearly agreed with the content creator – as the video racked up a whopping 272.1k likes and 1.6 million views on the channel.

“RIP Freddie Mercury, you would have loved Chappell Roan,” wrote one fan, while another noted, “It takes ten years to become an overnight success.”

Others had been there from the beginning.

“I remember hearing Pink Pony Club in 2021 and thinking, ‘How is this girl not worldwide famous?!?’” they said.

Labeling the clips “subtle foreshadowing” and branding the star “Gen Z’s Lady Gaga”, others got emotional watching the video.

“I feel like hearing Pink Pony Club live would be a spiritual experience for me,” commented one, as another added, “This is the best mashup I’ve seen yet. I’m all misty eyed.”

“I never skip a video that pans from this to one of her newer performances,” wrote someone else, while a final commenter finished, “OUT. EFFING. STANDING. 56 year old man here with two LGBTQ daughters and this brought me to tears. Well done. Well done indeed.”
