• Last week, a dating website published a list of the rankings for the ‘UK’s Sexiest Man’, after encouraging their users to vote for their favorite
  • Topping the list was TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson, followed by Tom Holland, Prince William and Gareth Southgate
  • Of course, the internet wasn’t happy about it – and some of the week’s best memes were born

It’s the age-old question – who exactly is the ‘sexiest man in the world’?

While People magazine does a great job of ranking showbiz’s best looking men every year, over in the UK, one company decided to have their own crack at it.

Married dating site IllicitEncounters (which sounds sketchy at best), asked 2000 women to vote for who they thought was the hottest man in Great Britain – and the results raised a few eyebrows, to say the least.

For forget the likes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Zayn Malik and Luke Newton – at the top of the list was none other than TV presenter, Jeremy Clarkson.

The former Top Gear host, 64, was launched straight into the top spot with a scoring of 9/10 for the second year in a row – followed closely by Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, 27, with eight points.

Third on the list was Prince William, 41, and England captain Gareth Southgate, 53, snagged fourth place.

Completing the top ten list, in ranked order, were: Cillian Murphy (who, readers pointed out, is actually Irish), Idris Elba, comedian Romesh Ranganathan, TV personality Sam Thompson, ‘Hardest Geezer’ Russ Cook, and presenter Dermot O’Leary.

Speaking to MailOnline, Jessica Leoni, spokesperson at Illicitencounters.com, who organize the annual UKs Sexiest Man poll, commented, “Clarkson and his farm is a bit like Noah’s ark and just like the animal’s in that story, his victory in the Sexiest Man vote has come in twos.

“We all know about his brash persona, but the latest series of Diddly Squat has shown he can tug at heartstrings too – and clearly his famer look continues to set hearts racing.

“Just like last year’s poll, we knew providing our members with a list of 50 famous names across both genders and asking them to score them on their ‘sexiness’ would throw up some surprises – we’re not putting it past Clarkson to go for the three-peat next year!”

Clarkson comes out on top – but the Internet isn’t happy about it

But while it may seem futile to argue with such a comprehensive list of hotties, the Internet was not happy with the rankings at all – and took to Twitter/X to make their feelings known.

Some questioned the website’s credibility

And demanded the order be reshuffled

Others couldn’t get their heads around it at all

And thought it must be a prank

As ever, fans tried to give Jonathan Bailey a late entry – and joked being excluded was actually a hate crime

Although others made their feelings about the list known in other, less subtle, ways…

Some (rightly) how Cillian Murphy ended up on the list, despite not being from the UK

A few proposed alternative lists

Or compared those currently ranked to surprising things they would find even sexier…

(…and throwing the most shade in doing so)
