- Ariana Grande was nominated at several prestigious awards ceremonies this season for her role as Glinda in Wicked
- While we’ll have to wait until March 2 to see if Grande claims the Best Supporting Actress gong at the Oscars, fans have come up with a reason why their favorite star is yet to win any of her categories
- Wicked has also helped launch Grande as a serious actor

Ariana Grande wowed audiences as Glinda in Wicked.
And the actor, 31, earned a slew of nominations for her efforts – including one for the prestigious Best Supporting Actress award at the 2025 Oscars ceremony.
While fans will have to wait until this Sunday, March 2 to see if Grande has bagged herself the gong, they have been less than impressed that Grande has been snubbed from nearly every category she has been entered for at this year’s awards ceremonies.
With the exceptions of taking home the Rising Star award at the Palm Springs, and the Virtuoso award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festivals, Grande has lost out to Emilia Pérez actor Zoe Saldaña at almost every big event.
But while they may feel disgruntled, the Dangerous Woman singer’s followers have come up with an interesting theory why Grande and her co-star Cynthia Erivo have failed to pick up any awards for their roles in Wicked.
Fans ‘reveal’ why Ariana Grande has not won for her role in Wicked

Taking to social media, fans theorized that if a movie is set to come out in two parts, the first will usually be snubbed for any awards.
Wicked watchers will know that while the first film hit theaters on November 22 2024, the second part – titled Wicked: For Good – will not be screened until November 21 this year.
“I feel that historically, any time there’s a sequel coming, any honors for the actors/actresses involved are usually done at the awards ceremonies the year the sequel comes out,” noted one.
“So, we are unlikely to see any big awards recognizing Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo et al anytime soon.”
Others likened the musical’s lack of accolades to another famous franchise.
“Being nominated alone is a HUGE recognition. I think a lot of voters have the mindset that Ariana and Cynthia will be nominated again for Wicked Part 2 and will likely vote for them then,” someone else went on.
“The same thing happened with the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Imagine her acting in For Good??”
Another pointed out, “Look at what happened with the initial Lord of the Rings trilogy. Nothing really happened awards-wise until Return of the King came out.”
But while some did agree with the theory, they also branded it “stupid”.
“Wicked being completely snubbed at all the award ceremonies is p***ing me off so bad,” one person said.
“Like, ‘Oh they can get it next time because of Part 2’. NO they deserved awards for Part 1!!! Best movie of the year musically and acting!”
Another agreed.
“They’ve got the sequel next year, they’re waiting to award them, which I think is so stupid,” they went on. “Grande could potentially win for both.”
Ariana Grande eyed up for several other acting roles

Despite being unlucky on the 2025 awards circuit, Wicked has still launched Grande into a career as a serious actor.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor has been offered a number of projects since the Jon M. Chu-directed movie-musical.
While she is yet to engage with any offers, the parts Grande has been presented with are reportedly a disaster wedding comedy, a female detective romp set in a Housewives-style reality show, and a Spaceballs sequel.
When asked about the roles, Grande told the outlet, “Well, I can neither confirm nor deny, but I’m blushing.
“I just think it’s such an important thing to stay connected to that guttural creative thing in my heart and my chest that wants to give itself over to something that screams at me and says, ‘Oh, that’s a really cool challenge.’
“I have a thing, and when it goes off, I know.”
Grande also admitted that she knows the experience of being in Wicked will be hard to replicate – so isn’t going to try.
“I think it makes you hungry for something different,” she said.
