Freddie Prinze Jr, one of the stars of horror classic I Know What You Did Last Summer, has signed up to appear in the new follow-up film that is in the works.
Role reprisal
ABC News reported that Prinze is set to reprise his role of Ray Bronson in the movie from Sony Pictures. Other actors so far confirmed include Chase Sui Wonders (best known for Bodies Bodies Bodies), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta), Sarah Pidgeon (Tiny Beautiful Things) and Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks).
Another star of the original film, Jennifer Love Hewitt, who played Julie James, is also in talks to reprise her role, ABC News added.
Neal Moritz, who produced I Know What You Did Last Summer and its sequel, is set to fulfil the role in this latest film too.
Slasher hit
Back in 1997, I Know What You Did Last Summer was a huge hit as slasher films were back in fashion following the success of Scream – another franchise that is planning a further movie next year with some original cast members.
I Know What You Did Last Summer starred Prinze, Hewitt as well as Sarah Michelle Gellar – who is married to Prinze – and Ryan Phillippe. It followed the story of a group of friends who are involved in a tragic accident that they try to cover up. However, someone knows and the friends end up being stalked by a hook-handed villain.
The film grossed more than $125 million worldwide and was followed by a sequel the next year, the imaginatively-titled I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
This new version of the film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 18, 2025.
